IC Information
Character Name: Rewind
Character Canon: Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye
Character Age: More than 4 million and less than 6 million years old
Character Gender: Male
Canon Point: Issue #15, after Overlord's cell detaches and just before being blown up
Character Canon History: Here!
Character Personality: Rewind is often considered by most members of the Lost Light to be one of the friendliest and most personable robots on board. He's very outgoing and playful, and enjoys spending his time in the company of many people all at once. While on the Lost Light, Rewind was known for hosting movie nights, where he would show flicks to a large group of friends of his from his database, from foreign feature films to home movies he put together himself. When Rung was still recovering from a massive brain injury, Rewind also put together several get-togethers of his many, many friends aboard the Lost Light to tell stories about their lives to Rung in Swerve's bar. While this act was primarily meant to help his friend and, as he put it, "fix Rung's brain", it was also an excuse for him to spend some quality time with his friends and recount moments of shared history together. Rewind is incredibly good at bringing people together, even people who typically wouldn't get along with one another.
As his name and the camera he's bolted onto his head implies, Rewind is a big film enthusiast, of both the historical and theatrical variety. For the past several million years, he has been filming and collecting data and footage on just about everything to do with Cybertronian history, considering himself an archivist. In fact, he has collected so much data that he has literally become a walking archive of Cybertronian history. Whenever he thinks that he's going to witness a very interesting or important moment of history, Rewind turns on the little camera on his head and starts filming, making sure to capture everything he can on film. This has turned him into a very curious robot, interested in learning the accounts of just about any prominent person he comes into contact with. He wants to learn any kind of history he can about someone, and tends to keep all files and information about people he meets neatly filed away in his database to recall at a moment's notice.
Rewind has an incredible amount of determination. Despite constant failure and disappointments, he perseveres against all the odds to complete his goals. Perhaps the most notable instance of this is his search for his long missing friend and past lover, Dominus Ambus. Dominus Ambus meant a great deal to him for saving him from a life of slavery as Rewind was a member of the 'disposable class', and according to Chromedome, he still considers Dominus to be his number one. The two of them had been separated soon after the start of the war between the Autobots and the Decepticons, and Rewind has been searching for him ever since. After a while with absolutely no information on where Dominus could have gone, Rewind's search took a turn for the macabre and he began searching suicide clinics and buying footage of executions and slaughters just to see if he'd somehow fallen. He even goes so far as to put himself in danger by joining combat missions when he has no combat abilities, much to Chromedome's annoyance, just to see if he can find some sort of information about Dominus. His long, unending search, while leaving him in much pain after each disappointment, continues even until his death, and he made Chromedome promise to continue the search if Rewind ever died before Chromedome did. While this instance of determination could be considered unhealthy obsession, he has applied this sort of attitude in more positive and healthy ways in his life.
In particular, Rewind has an infinite amount of patience with his conjunx endura- or significant other- Chromedome. Despite Chromedome's completely frustrating and stubborn habit of injecting, a form of surgery involving memory tampering that slowly kills him each time he performs it, Rewind still loves him with all his heart and is able to see the good parts of him. Rewind is the one who keeps Chromedome honest, and while his determination to keep Chromedome from injecting causes several arguments between the two of them, he refuses to give up or let it go. This patience has caused Rewind to stick by Chromedome's side through it all, and his loving personality lets him focus on all the wonderful things that he sees in his partner instead.
Character Abilities:
Alt Mode: Rewind can transform into a giant memory stick. While his alt mode is considered by many to be impractical-- compared to turning into a truck or a jet or something else mobile and with weapons-- it does help him with his job. He has enough storage space in his databanks to store over 4 million years worth of history, and he is essentially an archive and an archivist all in one.
Camera Head: Rewind bolted a camera to his head some several million years back and has been recording countless decades of footage onto his hard drive ever since. This is on top of footage he has collected onto his hard drive from various security cameras and television broadcasts, as well as feature films both local and foreign. He also has the ability to very, very quickly cobble together and edit footage (putting together his goodbye message to Chromedome in less than a second.) His database has something akin to a built-in search engine that lets him find almost any clip he has at will.
Holomatter Avatar: Rewind is capable of projecting a human avatar made of solid light separate from his body. His avatar resembles a 20-something-year-old male human that carries around a giant video camera. His avatar's name is, fittingly enough, "Joe Human."
Character Inventory: None.
Interaction Sample: Here ya go!
Third Person Sample:
As Rewind explored the strange human city of Saeng Seong, the little red light on his camera flashed, recording everything he saw. He had no idea what this place was, but he was determined to capture it in film, to make sure he remembered what it was. He owed it to this place, this peaceful little city that provided an escape from whatever horrible fate was waiting for him back in his own universe, to preserve it in all its glory.
Only problem was that it wasn't exactly as exciting as political turmoil with high stakes, or Autobot and Decepticon battles to the death, or quests for long lost fabled Knights of Cybertron.
One interesting structure eventually does catch his eye, and the curious little 'bot decides to get a closer look. A temple, surrounded by a garden, standing alone both quiet and serene. As he explores, Rewind can't help but simulate throat clearing in an attempt to break up the quiet. He wasn't used to this, he was used to the hustle and bustle of the Lost Light, or of crazy battlefields with Cybertonians fighting for their lives...
Uncharacteristically, Rewind starts muttering a quiet monologue over his footage. "Well, there you have it folks. Saeng Seong, the quietest little city in the entire universe." He pauses, and then lets out a soft laugh. "But you know what I say about quiet cities, don't you? The quieter the city, the more likely it is to have a sinister underbelly. And I'm going to get to the bottom of it if it's the last thing I do."
